The Sydney Cricket Ground is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of rugby league Immortal, Norm Provan.
Provan forms one half of rugby league's 'Gladiators' – John O'Gready's legendary photo of the mud-covered Wests captain Arthur Summons embracing Provan after the Dragons’ controversial win in 1963. The image is the centrepiece of the NRL premiership trophy.
SCG Chairman Tony Shepherd AO said: "Norm Provan walked out of the Members Pavilion for 10 years in a row on rugby league’s grand final day. He returned a winner each time. Today the Australian flag atop the Pavilion flies at half-mast in his honour."
"He is an Immortal, a life member of the SCG, recognised in our Walk of Honour and a great Australian. During his playing career and in the many years after, he contributed much to our ground, his sport and the broader community."
